In Honour of Pat Burns!
November 26, 2010- The Gatineau Olympiques (16-8-4) honoured Pat Burns in their own way when the Rockets of P.E.I. (14-10-2) at the Robert Guertin Center Friday night. After an emotional pre-game ceremony Benoit Groulx’s team won the game 5-3.
For the opponents Ben Duffy, Samuel Morneau (with his first visit after being traded to P.E.I) and Michael Ortika scored. François Lacerte stopped 30 shots in the victory and Evan Mosher faced 27 shots.
Before the game a minute of silence was held in memory of an ex great coach of the Olympiques, Pat Burns. A banner in his honour was also revealed before the game. As for the official faceoff it was made by 3 players that Pat had coached in Hull, Luc Chénier, Rick Hayward and Sam Lang then Serge Coté, the Gatineau announcer invited Pat Burns’ son Jayson to drop the puck. The crowd gave him a warm welcome with an ovation of a few minutes, a touching moment.
The Olympiques will face the Cataractes of Shawinigan Saturday November 27 at 4h00pm in Gatineau. This game will be extremely important since the third place in the Telus division will be at stake.
