Haakon Hanelt commits to the Gatineau Olympiques

GATINEAU – Haakon Hanelt, the Gatineau Olympiques’ most recent pick in the CHL’s European Hockey Draft, has committed to play in North America this fall.

The 18-year-old German was playing in the professional ranks with Eisbären Berlin in Germany’s top professional league last season.

In the last NHL draft, the Washington Capitals made Hanelt their 5th round pick. His arrival in Gatineau fits perfectly with his goals.

“I am extremely happy that Haakon has chosen to continue his career with us. His ultimate goal is to make it to the NHL one day and he feels that the best way to do that is to continue his learning with us. On our side, we believe that his experience acquired during the last few seasons in the pros will be beneficial to our organization. He is a player who has played against men in the last few years which is not negligible. Haakon has a great offensive talent and is a very respectful young man. We would like to welcome him to Gatineau” – Louis Robitaille.
