The Olympiques were back in action against the Foreurs for the last time in Chicoutimi’s protected environment. Earlier this week, the QMJHL announced that the Victoriaville Tigres as well as the Chicoutimi Saguenéens were to self-isolate for a period of 14 days following the discovery of a positive COVID case in the Tigres team.
Like their two previous games, both teams studied each other at the beginning of the game. There were a few chances from each side but nothing to report.
Zack Michaud took advantage of a disorganized game in front of the Olympiques net and scored the opening goal of the game, 1-0 for Val-d’Or.
The Olympiques picked up the puck, went to the net, Coxhead took advantage of an abandoned puck, made a fake move and scored to tie the game.
The Foreurs completely dominated the start of the second period. They had several excellent chances to score but every time Rémi Poirier closed the door. It was 17-6 shots in favor of the Foreurs but the score remained 1-1.
The entire period was like the first minutes of the 2nd, the Foreurs dominated the young Olympiques with 24-10 shots in their favor. Alexandre Doucet then scored to give the Foreurs the lead, it’s 2-1.
A short while later, the Foreurs were given a penalty shot. Jakob Pelletier took off but Rémi Poirier covered his angles really well and the puck hit the goal post. The score remained 2-1.
The 3rd period was played at high speed. The Foreurs put a lot of pressure on the Olympiques. With 7:32 to go, the young Olympiques were still trailing behind but everyone continued to give his 110% to get the goal that would tie the game.
The Olympiques were called a penalty with 4:15 minutes left in the third period and animosity took over both teams… they really don’t like each other. Rémi made incredible saves while Pelletier, Poulin, Légagé and Spence were on the ice.=
Despite constant pressure late in the game, the Olympiques were unable to put the puck in the net.
The Foreurs win 2-1.
