A successful return for Nadeau and his team!

SHAWINIGAN – The Olympiques faced the defending champions Friday night at the Centre Gervais Auto in Shawinigan, as the Gatineau Cataractes recorded their 20th consecutive victory.

Prior to the game, the Cataractes organization presented the championship ring to captain Olivier Nadeau, with his former teammates in attendance.

The start was not what Louis Robitaille’s men expected as they took a few minutes to readjust before opening the scoring in front of a hostile Mauricie crowd.

Alexis Gendron had to take two chances before beating goalie Antoine Coulombe to give the visitors the lead. It was the 51st goal for the forward this year.

However, the answer came a few minutes later when Léo Braillard leveled the score to go back to the locker room with an identical score of 1 to 1 after 20 minutes.

Three unanswered goals in the second period

The second period went in favour of the Olympiques. Cam MacDonald was the first to strike with his 29th of the campaign, allowing the visitors to never look back. Alexis Gendron, and Zach Dean were the other scorers to provide a comfortable 4-1 lead after two periods.

Third period in favour of the Olympiques

The Gatineau team continued to work in the final period. Marcel Marcel took advantage of an overage thanks to the speed of Samuel Savoie to score his 13th of the regular season, and this, in a power play. Finally, Olivier Nadeau, who was on the opposite side in 2021-2022, scored his 21st goal of the year in his return to Shawinigan. The captain didn’t miss the opportunity to showcase his talent as he finished the night with 3 points.

Back at home

The Olympiques will cross swords again against the Shawinigan Cataractes on Sunday at 3pm, this time at the Slush Puppie Centre.
