A night to remember!

GATINEAU – In the 50 years of history, many legends have been born in the Olympiques organization. Tonight, the most successful junior team in the country wanted to thank Serge Haché who has worked with the organization for 35 years as an equipment manager. Many Olympiques alumni such as Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Claude Giroux, Max Talbot, Pavel Rosa, Benoit Groulx, Charles Henry and many others sent a video to congratulate Serge for this achievement.

Second game in as many nights

After an overtime win last night against the Armada, Louis Robitaille’s team was trying to get a 3rd consecutive win when the Drummondville Voltigeurs came to the Slush Puppie Center.

At 5:54 of the first period, Olivier Boutin directed a shot that was deflected by the opposing defense and beat the goalie to open the scoring. Alexis Gendron and Tristan Luneau both got assists on Boutin’s net.

Less than a minute after Olivier Boutin’s goal, Noah Warren directed a shot from distance that eluded the Voltigeurs’ goaltender and doubled his team’s lead with his first goal of the season. Two goals by defensemen gave the Gatineau team a 2-0 lead.

At 8:52 of the first period, Olivier Nadeau redirects a perfect pass from Vincent Maisonneuve into the slot to make it 3-0. Nadeau added another 59 seconds later when he took his own shot back to the net to quadruple the Gatineau lead. That’s 4 goals in 4:03 for Louis Robitaille’s men, forcing the Voltigeurs to call a timeout midway through the first period.

Gendron, Gendron, Gendron!

In the middle of the second, Riley Kidney enters the offensive zone and passes to Alexis Gendron who finds the back of the net with a shot between the goalie’s pads. Kidney picked up his 3rd assist of the game on Gendron’s 24th goal of the season.

Halfway through the 3rd period, the Piques are still hungry! Sam Savoie forced a turnover in offensive territory and passed to Alexis Gendron who found himself alone in front of the goalie and managed to score his 2nd of the game and 25th of the season… But it wasn’t over for Gendron. Less than 2 minutes after scoring his 2nd of the game, Gendron completes his hat trick and gives the Olympiques a 7-0 lead and the chants of “OLE OLE OLE” can be heard at the Slush.

A first for Lapenna in Gatineau

Francesco Lapenna turned aside all 22 shots he faced tonight, good for his first shutout since arriving in the Outaouais. This performance also earned him the 3rd star.

“Lapenna’s 2-0 save on Manix Landry in the slot should not be overlooked. We’ll turn around and score” – Louis Robitaille, Head Coach

The crowd at the CSP was quick to cheer after a video was shown showing some of Manix’s best moments in the Gatineau uniform.
