A hard-fought victory!

GATINEAU – The Olympiques started the first of a three game series in three nights against the Blainville Boisbriand Armada. It was also the return of Zach Dean and Marcel Marcel who both won medals at the IIHF World Junior Championship as well as the first game at the Slush Puppie Center in an Olympics uniform for Riley Kidney.

Nadeau opens the scoring!

After a scoreless first half, Riley Kidney sent a puck towards the net that was picked up by Olivier Nadeau with a pivot and hit the puck with his backhand to open the scoring. Gendron also got an assist against his former team on Nadeau’s goal.

Early in the second period, the Olympiques took advantage of a power play that saw the Gatineau team double their lead as Zach Dean redirected a Riley Kidney shot to score in his first game back from the World Junior Championship. Tristan Luneau picked up an assist on the sequence, Kidney picked up an assist on the first two Olympics goals.

Midway through the third, Cam MacDonald sent a backhand pass to Cole Cormier who sent the puck towards the net. The rebound of Cole Cormier’s shot would land on the stick of Sam Savoie who would complete the scoring in an empty net to tie the game at 3-3.

At the end of the 3rd period, the Armada took advantage of a 4 minute power play. Kaiden Kirkwood closes the door on several players to allow the Olympiques to take the penalty. The game goes into overtime…

Overtime

With almost two minutes left in overtime, Isaac Belliveau entered the offensive zone and left it behind for Cam MacDonald who beat the opposing goaltender to give the Olympiques the win.

Three games in three nights

The Olympiques continue their three game series tomorrow night when former Olympiques captain Manix Landry and the Drummondville Voltigeurs visit the Slush Puppie Centre.
