« We came out strong in the first period but it’s a shame that we only played 20 minutes», explained the head coach, Benoit Groulx. Actually the Olympiques scored their five goals in the first period; the first came only after 12 seconds of play. Martin Reway, with a double and Émile Poirier with his 6th of the season scored followed by Mikael Langlois and Kameron Keilly who both scored their first goal of the season.
Michael McNamee was the only one to score for Sherbrooke. The Phoenix however had not said its last word. « The guys thought that at 5-1, recounts Groulx that the game was over».
In the second period, the Olympiques faced a much more aggressive opponent. The visitors were more imposing physically and offensively. Brandon Lesway and Jeremy Beaudry both scored on a power play.
In the third period, both teams delivered a hot fight taking 11 shots on each side. Jean-Christophe Laflamme scored on Éric Brassard after slightly more than three minutes. Gatineau held the fort until the final buzzer.
The Olympiques goalie, Éric Brassard, stopped 19 shots. Benoit Groulx was happy of the performance of his goalie. He also had some good comments for Jordan Kennedy who played his first game with the team this season. At each of his presence on the ice, Kennedy touched the puck and made sure to be noticed.
