February 20th, 2012- The Gatineau Olympiques came back with two points on a possibility of four during their weekend trip in Chicoutimi and Baie-Comeau.
A rare victory on the road
Friday in Chicoutimi, Benoit Groulx’s troop won their first game on the road since their last trip at the beginning of January. They defeated the Saguenéens of Chicoutimi by a score of 4 to 3.
Adam Chapman outshined everyone with his 3 goals and 1 assist.
The Olympiques took an early 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. Adam Chapman ( Cortese & Clarke) and Alex Soumakis ( Cortese & Chapman) outsmarted Christopher Gibson. The former Olympiques players afterwards took things in their own hands by the end of the first period. Jean-Gabriel Pageau (Vermette & Gagnon) and Charles Hudon (Ouellet & Gagnon) brought back everyone to square one by tying the game.
Chapman added two goals in the second period. The first came from a pass by Clarke and Cortese and the second on pass from Lafontaine and Poirier. Christian Ouellet (Sedlak) reduced Gatineau’s lead to 1 at the beginning of the third period.
The Olympiques power play found to be successful with 3 goals on a possibility of 5.
François Lacerte , who was in net for Gatineau, played a good game with a total of 31 saves.
Another loss
On Synday afternoon in Baie-Comeau it was a little harder for the Olympiques, they lost by a score of 2 to 1.
Sacha Guimond (Cingel & Filippi) gave their team a 1-0 lead in the middle of the first period. We had to wait till the beginning of the third period to see the Olympiques tie the game. Emile Poirier scored on a pass by Cortese & Janosik. However a few minutes later, Julien Lepage ( Caron) scored to give back the lead to Baie-Comeau. They never looked back afterwards.
François Lacerte was once again in front of the net for the Olympiques. He faced 28 shots. The 16 year old goaltender, Philippe Cadorette was on duty on the opponents side. He stopped 30 shots.
The Olympiques will be in Quebec this Friday evening to play against the Remparts before returning home on Sunday to face the Sagenéens of Chicoutimi. It will also be the return of former players, Jean-Gabirel Pageau, Chrisitan Ouellet and Mathieu Gagnon at the Robert Guertin Center. The Olympiques organization will also honor their former #10 player of the Hull Olympiques, Jean Poulin before the faceoff. The game will start at 4h00pm.
